MassBike Festival Saturday, August 28: Sign Up Now!
Come join the fun! MassBike’s Second Annual Bike Festival will
take place next weekend-- Saturday, August 28--at the Fenn School in Concord
(516 Monument Street). From serious cyclists to families with kids, MassBike
supporters will gather for a day of fun rides of all lengths and an
afternoon time trial. You won’t want to miss our 100K through the rolling
hills of Harvard and the Fruitlands; the historical ride through Lexington
and Concord; our trip to the DeCordova Museum’s outdoor sculpture garden;
the “Ice Cream Headache” ride with 4 ice cream stops; and more! Pre-register
online and save: the all-day Festival plus free Redbones BBQ and vegetarian
food is only $25 for individuals and $40 for families ($10 additional for a
spot in the time trial).

If you would like to volunteer—we particularly need a “chef” who
would like to help cook corn; someone with a car to set up a water stop; and
someone who would like to assist with kids’ activities--please contact Karin
at oberon119 at hotmail.com.

            More MassBike Legislative Success!
Last week, Governor Romney signed the Transportation Bond
Bill—including all of MassBike’s bond bill priorities—into law. Thank you,
Governor! This included measures to ease liability concerns regarding
rail-trail conversions (Section 29); $5 million for Safe Routes to Schools,
which makes it easier for kids to bike to school; greater bike and
pedestrian accessibility for North Point Park (Section 71); better signage
on bike routes (Section 76); and funds for a bike path from Belmont to
Alewife and Davis Square; Bike to the Sea funds; as well as other projects.
We would also like to thank all the legislators who championed these
projects and the MassBike members who contacted them.
To thank Governor Romney for supporting MassBike’s priorities in
the Transportation Bond Bill...
